Air Canada Hangar YVR

Spectrum Painting & Restorations Ltd. was engaged to complete the full exterior coating scope of the Air Canada hangar facility at Vancouver International Airport (YVR), covering structural steel members, concrete wall surfaces, and exterior metal wall panels. The multi-substrate scope demanded distinct preparation methods and coating systems for each surface type, executed to high industrial standards including SSPC-SP 10 abrasive blast cleanliness on steel. Work was completed across large building elevations using a coordinated combination of suspended swing stages and large aerial lift equipment, all within an active airport operational environment that required tight coordination with adjacent trades and site activities. The entire scope was delivered under a project-specific Inspection and Test Plan with defined quality hold points and verified by a third-party coating inspector, ensuring compliance with project specifications, manufacturer requirements, and recognized industry standards.

Scope

• Surface preparation of structural steel to SSPC-SP 10 (Near-White Metal Blast) for required cleanliness and surface profile
• Surface preparation of concrete substrates per project specifications and manufacturer requirements
• Surface preparation of exterior metal wall panels to ensure proper coating adhesion
• Application of high-performance exterior coating systems engineered for long-term durability, corrosion protection, and environmental exposure resistance
• Multi-substrate coating execution across structural steel, concrete walls, and metal wall panels
• Coordinated access planning using suspended swing stages and large aerial lift equipment to safely cover the building envelope
• Project-specific Inspection and Test Plan (ITP) with defined hold points for surface prep, substrate readiness, environmental conditions, and coating application
