Joyce SkyTrain Coating Project

Spectrum Painting was engaged by Graham Construction on behalf of TransLink to complete lead abatement and protective coating application to structural steel components at Joyce SkyTrain Station in Vancouver. The existing coating systems were identified as lead-containing, requiring full hazardous materials abatement procedures executed in compliance with WorkSafeBC and BCRTC/TransLink protocols, including engineered containment, negative air controls, environmental monitoring, and regulated waste handling. Following surface preparation, AkzoNobel high-performance protective coating systems were applied to overhead station trusses and related structural members, with film thickness and cure conditions monitored throughout to ensure long-term corrosion protection. All work was delivered using rolling scaffold and engineered access solutions while the station remained fully operational, requiring precise coordination around public safety, restricted work windows, and active transit service.
