Project Overview

Spectrum Painting was engaged by PCL to deliver the complete architectural coatings scope for the New St. Paul’s Hospital in downtown Vancouver — one of the largest active healthcare construction projects in British Columbia. Spanning over two million square feet across 12 storeys and a parkade, Spectrum’s scope covers the full East and West Towers as well as Levels 4 and 5 of the podium, which house critical support and back-of-house functions. Finish selections were driven by the performance demands of a modern healthcare environment, with high-performance water-based epoxy systems specified throughout for durability, cleanability, and low VOC impact on indoor air quality. Work is sequenced floor-by-floor across multiple concurrent zones, with each stage — prime, intermediate, and final finish coats — tied to shifting turnover milestones and coordinated closely with PCL and concurrent trades. Quality is managed through Spectrum’s own dedicated QC staff, the general contractor’s inspection program, and independent third-party inspections conducted to Master Painters and Decorators Association (MPDA) standards.
